Chicago may not seem like very much of a 24 hour town but there certainly are some good, cheap places to eat if you.re up late. All of the following restaurants are open 24 hours.
If you.re anywhere near Rogers Park, Standees, located at Granville and the Red Line is always a good bet. The food is pretty good, the prices are reasonable, and the atmosphere (of a tiny 1950s coffee shop) can't be beat. Just to the west at Devon and Clark is the Deluxe Diner. Although it isn't quite as cheap as Standees, the food can be better at times, and it is considerably cleaner and brighter if that is you're thing. White Castle (all of which are open 24 hours) is also close by (Ridge/Clark) if you choose to partake.
Golden Nugget is a small chain of diners on the north and northwest sides with good cheap food. Their locations are:
- Clark just south of Diversey
- Diversey/Western
- Diversey/Pulaski
- Central/Wellington
- Irving Park/Tripp
- Irving Park/Keeler
- Lawrence/Ravenswood
Lesabre, at Montrose/Damen is a good standard diner open all night.
The White Palace, at Canal/Roosevelt is a cheap diner with a rather sterile atmosphere. It's sister restaurant, the Hollywood Grill at Ashland/North is a good place offering typical diner fare. Of course down the street at Roosevelt and the Dan Ryan is Express Grill, with the best cheap polishes in town.
At the corner of Jackson/Halsted there are four 24 hour restaurants, the best of which are Taco & Burrito King for very good Mexican food, and Mr. Greek's for very good hot dog stand type food.
Lawrence's Fisheries, near Cermak/Canal is open all night and offers very good seafood in a fast-food type atmosphere.
Archview, a couple blocks southwest of Damen on Archer, is an excellent relatively cheap diner near Bridgeport.
Outside of this list there are half a dozen Maxwell Stations (basically identical to Express Grill) and Mexican food places, but you'll have to explore those on your own.
