Do you ride the CTA frequently? Here are some hints that may help you out or speed up your trip.
- Don't ever take the #22 Clark if you're in a hurry, especially in rush hour. This bus gets notoriously late, especially near the end of its run because of all the traffic in Lincoln Park and Lake View.
- If you don't mind using an extra transfer, it is often faster to transfer from the Blue Line to the Purple Line at LaSalle rather than Clark/Lake, because you don't have to ride all the way around the Loop. It is also reccomended for transferring to the Orange Line from the Blue Line in rush hour, as you'll be sure to get a seat using this method. Simply exit the subway at LaSalle and walk a block north to the LaSalle/Van Buren elevated station.
- Do you take the Metra Electric to Hyde Park from the Loop frequently? Why not take one of the CTA's express buses on Lake Shore Drive. Not only is it cheaper, but now there are two express buses to Hyde Park from downtown: the #6 Jackson Park Express and the #28 Stony Island Express.
- If you know you're going to ride the CTA quite a bit on a certain day, purchase a 1-day pass from a currency exchange or grocery store (Jewel, Dominick's or Cub Foods). It provides unlimited rides for 24 hours from when you first use the pass. Amazingly enough, very few people know about this pass which can save you a lot of money.
- As amazing as it may seem, CTA buses and trains do run on a schedule. In fact, you can get a free paper schedule for every bus and train route at the CTA offices: 7th floor of the Merchandise Mart.
- The new transfer tunnel between the Red and Orange/Green lines at Roosevelt is MUCH faster than transferring at State/Lake (and you stay out of the cold)!
